Kilima – a Tanzanian masterpiece

Design Cabinetworks

Kilima Lodge is situated in the Northern Serengeti region of Tanzania. It sits on the top of a small rise looking out over hundreds of kilometers of wildlife reserve.

The Architectural aesthetic fit the landscape perfectly.

Grass roofs, stone walls, concrete, and indigenous landscaping make the building almost dissapear. It’s big – 1200m2 in extent – and the interior spaces are airy, tall and voluminous, despite the low contours that the structure seems to imply from the outside. The house is a design masterpiece.

Our involvement included all of the built-in cabinetry and architectural millwork – Cabinets, doors, skirting boards, wooden wall cladding, decks, and pergolas – everything that was wood.

The timber selected for the inside was FSC certified Rift Sawn American Oak from a sawmill in Pensylvania, and Iroko for the exterior.
